“H.M.S. Ark Royal to be sunk to be used as an artificial reef in Torbay”.
The Ark Royal, once the pride of the British Royal Navy is being purchased to be sunk of Torquay, Devon to be used as an artificial reef for local and worldwide scuba divers. It will be the second largest artificial reef in the world and is expected to bring in substantial revenue for the ‘bay and local businesses. It follows the footsteps of H.M.S. Scylla, sunk a few years ago of the South East corner of Cornwall.
Once all the formalities of local and national “red tape” has been finalized it its hoped that she will be placed on site, sometime in 2012. Perhaps a bigger draw than the 2012 Olympics, and not as expensive?
